Join us in supporting the inclusion of 2 new tests to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS):
- 1705 – First Trimester Screening (FTS) Test – proposed by Professor Jon Hyett and relates to a first trimester ultrasound-based screening test
- 1706 – Preeclampsia Ratio (PERT) Test – proposed by Professor Shaun Brennecke (AAPEC Medical Advisor/Committee Member) which relates to the Preeclampsia Ratio (PERT) sFlt-1/PlGF blood test for use in the latter half of pregnancy
Both tests are part of a formal submission to the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) of the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care. The aim is to have their use financially subsidised by the Australian government.
But more importantly, medical professionals and AAPEC would like to see these tests be more widely available throughout Australia as part of maternity care. The tests aim to predict preeclampsia and thereby minimise the harm this condition can cause mothers and their babies.
The public consultation period for these two MSAC applications is now open. Public commentary regarding these applications will be viewed by the MSAC when the applications are considered in November this year.
Public commentary is open until Friday, 6 October 2023.
What can you do to help?
Rally your friends, family, work colleagues and your support groups to complete a downloadable form from the application landing page (links below), then submit them to the secretariat as per the instructions on each form.
1705 – First Trimester Screening (FTS) Test
1706 – Preeclampsia Ratio (PERT) Test
Any support offered from individuals and groups, will greatly help the chances of the MSAC recommending MBS reimbursement for these two important tests.
We look forward to helping us have these tests available, as part of the Medicare Benefits Schedule for the availability of all Australian pregnant mothers.
